8 night wildlife adventure with EuCAN from £975

Another fabulous opportunity to explore the birds, wildflowers, butterflies and moths, amphibians, dragonflies, food and culture of this little-known region of France only 300 miles south of the coast…  La Brenne, central France  Sunday May 31st – Monday June 8th 2015.  La Brenne is a land of 4500 fishponds, reedbeds, gently rolling pastures, heaths, forests and gorges, just south of the River Loire. Much lies within the Parc Naturel Régional; a significant part is further protected as Chérine National Nature reserve. Among the wide range of breeding birds are Whiskered Terns, Black-necked Grebes, several herons, Little Bittern & Bee-eater. The butterfly list numbers more than 100 species and there are many moth species now extinct in the UK. The rare European Pond Tortoise breeds here in good numbers. The orchids at this time will be stunning – this well-kept secret is a naturalists’ paradise!

Your holiday 7 nights in hotel accommodation in the centre of the charming village of Mézières-en-Brenne, within easy reach of the nature reserves. Half-board at the hotel Le Boeuf Couronné and delicious locally sourced picnics for lunch. It is a very gentle landscape – the walks will be as easy as you choose!

Your leaders Nigel Spring and Kathy Henderson have been leading groups to La Brenne since 2005, andfounded the European Conservation Action Network (EuCAN) in 2007. Kathy is an experienced botanist and Nigel is an enthusiastic all-round naturalist and teacher.
