Late summer means back to school and is the best time of year for training courses. The weather is usually favourable, The days are still long and we don’t disturb the nesting birds with our chainsaws.
Starting next week, we are offering Pesticide courses. The foundation module is PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides and this needs to be followed up with a practical module i.e. Hand Held Application PA6aw or perhaps Boom Spraying using a Tractor or an ATV. The Candidate will need to be NPTC assessed to achieve the relevant Certificate of Competence for their work. Our PA6aw courses include the use of pesticides near water. The PA1 assessment is a computer based multiple choice test but the PA6aw and PA2a are practical assessments
DATES: PA1 on 29th August or 3rd November. PA6aw on 2nd September or 4th November. PA2a on 26th September.
Chainsaw courses are always popular as are the arboriculture courses and we have a wide range coming up shortly.
DATES: Chainsaw maintenance cross cutting and felling trees up to 200mm diameter with Lantra Awards Certification is 4 days 22/23/24/25 September but if you need the NPTC Certificated course for Chainsaw maintenance cross cutting and felling trees up to 380mm diameter that course is running 13/14/15/16/17 October with an NPTC assessment date to be arranged. If tree climbing is what you need then we are running Accessing a Tree with Rope and Harness and Aerial Rescue with NPTC Certification on 20/21/22/23/24 October. Assessments will be the following week. If climbing a tree is not for you then how about Using a Chainsaw from a MEWP. We are running this course on 2nd & 3rd October but there are pre-requisite certificates for this. You need a current (within 5 years) MEWP Certificate and you need your NPTC maintenance, cross cutting and felling certificate. Maybe it is a chainsaw refresher certificate that you need and we can do this for you on 10th & 11th September.
Brushcutter and Strimmer certification is useful now for the autumn tidy up and we have courses on 15th and 25th September.
There are two levels of Tree Inspection, both Certificated by Lantra Awards. The Basic Tree Survey and Inspection course is on either 10th September or 16th October and is suitable for anyone who needs to make a first observation and then report their findings to an arboriculturalist for further action. The Professional Tree Inspection course is 3 days 20th/21st/22nd October and it is desirable to have a Level 3 qualification in forestry or arboriculture before attending this course. A certain level of knowledge is assumed during this course and to establish if candidates are suitable we offer a telephone interview with the Course Tutor.
Counterbalance and Telescopic Handler courses run throughout the year on demand’ The one-day course available for refreshing a certificate (recommended every 5 years) and either a 2 day or 3 day course available depending on the trainee’s experience.
