Spring is not just for nature to enjoy.  We can tidy up some of our skills and polish our performance in the workplace during the nicer weather

With the rain and mud from the winter months mostly out of the way now it is the season for choosing the appropriate vehicle or machine and taking to the land for essential cultivations, animal movement or access for general land management. Vehicles account for many accidents and sadly some fatalities, so it is essential for land managers (farmers, conservationists, councils, golf club etc) to ensure everyone has appropriate and adequate training.   The advantages outweigh the costs. Tasks are undertaken more efficiently and economically. Damage and accidents are reduced with inevitable savings in money and lives.

Newlands Training Ltd offers the 2 Day Lantra Awards Certificated 4×4 Off Road Driving Certificate which is ideal for anyone using 4×4 in the workplace.   Our Sit-In or Sit-Astride ATV courses are full of technical content and confidence building driving sessions on a variety of terrain.

These courses help Managers comply with their health and safety obligation of “duty of care”. Managers need to be familiar with the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007.

Along with our usual courses for Pesticide Application i.e. PA1 Safe Use of Pesticides, PA2a Boom Spraying and PA6aw Hand Held Application of Pesticides, there are two new Certificates of Competence that are now essential to know about:

GRANDFATHER RIGHTS will no longer apply after 26th November 2015. After that date, anyone born before 31st December 1964 who currently enjoy Grandfather Rights, will need to obtain the City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides Replacing Grandfather Rights Certificate of Competence. This Certificate will be needed to both purchase and apply professional Plant Protection products (PPPs). In addition it will be an offence for anyone to purchase PPPs unless they have ensured the intended end user has a Certificate of Competence. Newlands Training Ltd is now offering a one-day training course leading to independent assessment by a City & Guilds NPTC Assessor.

ALLUMINIUM PHOSPHIDE use is newly regulated, resulting in an appropriate one day course followed by City & Guilds NPTC independent assessment. Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Pest Control Certificate.   For the most part we are running courses for people who want Rodent, Mole and Rabbit Control Certification.

All the usual chainsaw courses for felling trees of various sizes continue during the Summer but what a lovely time of year to do Tree Climbing, Aerial Rescue and use of Chainsaw from Rope and Harness courses. If tree climbing isn’t for you then maybe use of a Chainsaw from a MEWP is the better option.
